Do you recognise yourself in one of these?
-
I brake in switchbacks and put a foot down.
You come away riding switchbacks without a foot down. -
As soon as it gets steep I stiffen up and go over the back.
You understand where to put your weight, and why. -
Wet roots and I get off the bike.
You ride them with the right speed and the right eyes. -
I just bought an E-Bike and I have no idea what to do with it uphill.
You use the motor on technical climbs, not just on the fire road. -
I have been riding for years and I am stuck.
You leave with three precise corrections and something to work on alone.
One day does not make you a different rider. It gives you what you cannot see on your own: an outside eye, and the right moves in the right order.
What we work on during the day
The fundamentals in the morning, on easy ground you can repeat. Putting them to work in the afternoon, on real trails, with the video in between.
Position
- Neutral position and attack position
- Weight distribution, front and back
- Arms and legs that absorb
- Where you look is where you go
Braking
- Modulating without locking up
- Braking before, not during
- One finger on each lever
- Brakes and corners: what can be done together
Corners
- Bermed corners and flat corners
- Switchbacks, up and down
- Anticipation and line choice
- Inside foot, outside foot
Obstacles
- Steps and rocks, up and down
- Roots and greasy ground
- Rolling drops and small jumps
- Manual and bunny hop, depending on level
How it goes
-
9:30
Welcome and set-up
Round the table: your level, your bike, what you want to unlock. Suspension, saddle and brake set-up: half the problems start there.
-
10:00
The fundamentals
Position, braking, eyes, on easy ground where the same move can be repeated ten times safely. The least spectacular and most useful part of the day.
-
12:30
Lunch and video
We eat, and we watch the morning's footage. You see what you do, not what you think you do: that is often the click.
-
13:30
On the trail
We apply it on real trails, matched to the group, with individual corrections on every run.
-
16:30
Wrap-up
Everyone leaves with two or three precise things to work on, and enough to progress alone until the next ride. Your videos are sent to you.
Two group courses, and private lessons for every level
Beginner
You can ride a bike, but off-road is new, or you have just bought a mountain bike or an E-Bike. We lay the foundations: position, braking, eyes, first corners and first steps.
Intermediate
You ride regularly but you have plateaued: switchbacks, steep ground, wet roots, small jumps. We fix what blocks you and widen what you dare.
Private
A private lesson suits everyone, from a first day off-road to an experienced rider: we work only on what you need, at your pace. It is also the only format beyond 3/4, where the sticking points become too individual for a group.
Upcoming skills courses
Departure is guaranteed as soon as the group is complete. If a ride does not gather enough participants, it is postponed or refunded: you lose nothing. No date works for you? A private lesson can be set on the date of your choice.
We do not teach you to go faster
We teach you to know what you are doing. The speed comes on its own afterwards.
Christian Dassi

Swiss Cycling certified instructor, on a mountain bike since 1989 and racing ever since. He has trained more than 980 riders over 16 years, from the first bermed corner to the first drop. French, English, German.
He still races at a high level: what he teaches, he practises every week.
All courses and campsPrivate lessons and existing groups
A private lesson is not just for experts: it suits every level. No date works for you, you would rather learn without an audience, you want to work on one precise point, or you already are a group: the lesson is set on your date, on your ground.
Private coaching, all levels
Half a day or a full day, on whatever you want to work on. For a first day off-road as much as for something that has resisted for years.
Existing group
You already are a group, at the same level: the course is set on the date and at the place of your choice in French-speaking Switzerland.
Reviews
The riding course for beginners is great for getting to grips with the technical basics of mountain biking. I recommend it a thousand times over! The Fully Bike Park lets you work on corners, balance, body position, drops and even jumps for the keenest. The course combines theory and practice, in a group but with individual attention. And above all, I am so glad I did this course with Christian: his kindness, his warmth, his expertise and his energy gave me the confidence to try things and to feel at ease!
Chris is without a doubt the best coach you can find for any level! After one day in Verbier, I don't think I'll ever ride the same way again. Chris gave me all the theoretical bases, and then throughout the day, before and during the downhill runs, he is constantly correcting your faults and where you can improve! At the end of the day you know exactly what you need to train to get much better technically, and how to do it.
Great day! Whether you are a beginner or already at ease on the bike, Chris coaches you with excellent technical advice, patience and good humour. A big new addition at Exoride: e-MTB lessons, advice on how to handle these latest-generation machines and use them to the full on the terrain, downhill as well as uphill. Fun with Exoride!
Frequently asked questions
What bike do I need?
A full-suspension mountain bike or E-Bike, enduro or all-mountain, in good working order. Brakes working, decent tyres: we set the suspension together in the morning. If you do not have the right bike, we rent them.
What gear should I bring?
Helmet required, knee pads strongly recommended, long gloves, glasses, food and water. Protection available to rent if needed.
I do not know which level to pick
Beginner if off-road is new or you have just bought your bike. Intermediate if you ride regularly and want to unlock specific situations. If in doubt, take the lower one: we always adjust to the group. And if neither fits, or you would rather learn without an audience, a private lesson adapts to any level.
Does the course work for an E-Bike?
Yes, and it is much asked for. The weight and the motor change the riding, downhill as much as on technical climbs: we work on those points specifically when there are E-Bikes in the group.
What if it rains?
We ride. Greasy ground is part of the practice, and a good moment to learn how to manage grip. If conditions become dangerous, we contact you to postpone.
From what age?
From 14 in a group course, with an adult for minors. For younger riders, a private family lesson works better.
When do I pay?
At registration, online: the course is paid in one go. If a date does not gather enough riders, it is postponed or refunded.
What happens after the course?
You leave with your videos and two or three things to work on. Many follow up with a shuttle day to put it into practice, or come back at the next level the following season.
Can I give a course as a present?
Yes: a gift card for the price of a day covers exactly one course. They then choose their date and their level.
One day, and you do not ride the same
Next course on 7 october in Verbier, at 129 CHF for the day.

The levels, made clear

First tracks
Wide paths, rolling doubletrack, the odd loose rock. MTB without traps, to build pleasure and confidence.
- comfortable on gravel and forest roads
- the word singletrack intrigues you more than it speaks to you
- you are discovering braking on loose ground

Singletrack bliss
Narrow but flowing trails: moderate roots and rocks, wide switchbacks, a few spots where you pick your line.
- you ride singletrack regularly and enjoy it
- tight switchbacks still make you dab a foot sometimes
- you brake hard without locking up in the rocks

Technical ground
Rock gardens, steps, tight switchbacks, off-camber: the terrain demands clean lines and active riding.
- tight switchbacks without dabbing, almost
- 30-40 cm steps do not stop you
- you read the trail several metres ahead

Committed
High mountain, exposed sections, big steps: places where mistakes cost, precise riding is mandatory.
- you ride what many carry
- exposure does not cloud your judgement
- you stay in control on the steep even when tired
Easy
Short outing, minimal climbing: shuttles or lifts do the work, frequent breaks.
- 2-3 h out
- under 300 m of climbing
- no training required
On an e-bike, one physical grade lower is often enough: ask us.
Active
Half to full mellow day: we pedal, but the pace leaves time for the view.
- 3-5 h out
- 300-700 m of climbing
- occasional exercise is enough
On an e-bike, one physical grade lower is often enough: ask us.
Sporty
A proper MTB day: hours in the saddle, real climbing, punchy sections. You need juice, not a palmares.
- full day, 5-7 h including breaks
- 800-1'200 m of climbing
- regular sport, endurance follows
On an e-bike, one physical grade lower is often enough: ask us.
Enduring
Big days or back-to-backs: climbing stacks up and the pace stays high.
- 1'500 m+ of climbing, or several days in a row
- regular training
- fast recovery is part of the game
On an e-bike, one physical grade lower is often enough: ask us.
Between two grades? Halves (2.5) exist: aim higher if you are fit, lower if you are coming back.
