3-day e-bike trip in the Aosta Valley: 140 km from the Great St Bernard to the Matterhorn

Three days of point-to-point e-biking on the Italian side of the tunnel, between legendary passes, panoramic singletracks and Aosta Valley villages. Shuttle drops every day, a local guide who knows the valley inside out, luggage moved from hotel to hotel, and Italian tables in the evening: fontina, Aosta ham, polenta. Level 2/4, e-bike, small group.

Highlights

  • Starting from the Great St Bernard Pass

Dropped at over 2'400 m, next to the hospice, for a first descent that sets the tone.

  • 140 km of point-to-point riding, from Valais to the Matterhorn

Three days crossing the valley from west to east, with shuttles and the motor to erase the climbs.

  • Facing the Matterhorn and the Aosta 4'000s

Balcony traverses on the sunny side of the valley, with the giants of the Alps in your sights.

  • La Bella Vita, every evening

Charming hotels, local produce and luggage already waiting for you.

  • A local guide and his insider's eye

He adapts the route to the group and the conditions, and knows all the right addresses.

  • Day 1 | From the Great St Bernard to Aosta, the opening act

Distance 60 kmClimbing 1'400 mDescent 3'100 mOvernight Hotel

The trip starts with a bus ride up to the Great St Bernard Pass. At over 2'400 m, the hospice has watched over the crossing for a thousand years: monks, pilgrims, traders and armies filed through long before us, and the place has kept something solemn about it. By the time the bikes are out, the assist levels checked and the briefing done, your eyes are already dropping down towards Italy.

First act: a flowing singletrack suspended above the valley, with the high peaks of the Aosta Valley as a backdrop. The kind of descent that sets the tone for three days. We then climb back up to a wild, untouched alpine pasture, a complete contrast with what came before: nothing but herds, a few stone roofs and silence. Then a long balcony traverse, time to scan the landscape all around, before the lunch break facing the massifs, a picnic for you and a recharge for the batteries.

One last uplift, then the reward: a descent on playful trails down to Aosta. The Roman town unfolds street by street, the Arch of Augustus at the end of the road, and the mood switches to Italian in an instant. From there, a transfer up to a charming mountain hotel, quiet and with a view: bikes parked, time to breathe, and off to the table for an Aosta Valley tasting, fontina, ham, polenta and a glass of local red. The rest can wait for tomorrow.

  • Day 2 | Sunny traverse to Saint-Vincent, between Cervinia and Châtillon

Distance 45 kmClimbing 1'000 mDescent 3'000 mOvernight Hotel

New day, new mood. We start with a balcony traverse on the sunny side of the valley, heading for Saint-Vincent. The route rolls by itself, and there's every reason to look up from the bars: opposite you, the Italian side of the Matterhorn, the one few people know, wilder and sharper than the Swiss postcard.

The trails are flowing, tailor-made for e-bikes: you link corner after corner without ever forcing it, you climb where others push, and off you go again. In the afternoon, the scenery changes between the Cervinia valley and Châtillon, another playground, other textures underfoot, as if you had changed region in a single day.

Late afternoon, the hotel. The luggage, moved by bus while you were riding, is already there: no backpack to carry, just the pleasure of finding your things and putting your feet up. In the evening, a typical meal, and the feeling of having seen two valleys in one day.

  • Day 3 | Two shuttles, a final lap and gourmet shopping

Distance 35 kmClimbing 700 mDescent 2'200 mOvernight Departure

For the last day, the programme stays just as generous: two bus drops, two different playgrounds, and new routes to explore. The guide fine-tunes the line according to the group's wishes, the shape of the day and the conditions, always in that spirit of varied singletracks, Aosta Valley panoramas and flow you'll have found from the first kilometre to the last.

Then back towards Aosta, with a final stop to wander: alpine cheeses, cured meats, local produce, enough to take a little of the valley home. It's often there, between two stalls, that the trip gets relived and the next one starts being planned.

Ready to taste La Bella Vita by e-bike? Small group, limited places: book yours and come discover the Aosta Valley from the trails.

Required level

If in doubt about your level, write to us before signing up: we'll point you in the right direction in two minutes.

Culture

The Aosta Valley is an autonomous Italian region wedged between Switzerland and France, where people speak Italian and French, and still Franco-Provençal patois in the villages. It's a land of passes and crossings: the Great St Bernard and its thousand-year-old hospice, the Roman roads of which Aosta keeps the Arch of Augustus and the theatre, the castles watching over the valley since the Middle Ages.

It's also a land of flavours: alpine fontina, Bosses ham, polenta, mountain wines grown on vertiginous terraces. Your guide knows the valley and its good addresses: he tells you all about it along the way.

Lodging & food

Two nights in charming hotels, with breakfast, coffee machine and wifi. The luggage is moved from one hotel to the next while you ride: you only carry your day pack.

Lunches and dinners are not included, but the programme plans for them: a picnic facing the massifs or a stop at a mountain hut at midday, and an Aosta Valley table in the evening, to keep the immersion going.

Climate

The Aosta Valley enjoys a privileged climate, often dry and sunny, with ideal riding temperatures. Starts and nights at altitude can be cool: take a windbreaker and a warm layer. If the weather is uncertain, the programme adapts and the guide picks the routes according to the day's conditions.

Safety

Small group, professional Swiss Cycling guide who knows the valley, mechanical support, mandatory protection. The pace is the group's, and nobody is pushed to do what they don't feel. Italian rescue services are quick and efficient; just make sure you're covered for mountain biking in the mountains.

Ready to ride?

Convinced? If your gear matches the programme, hit the registration button and book your spot: small group, limited places, and they go fast.

No date suits you, or you'd rather travel just with your group? We also run this trip privately, on the date that suits you: request your private trip.

A doubt, a question? Write to us, we answer quickly.

  • How many riders per group?

A small group: enough for the atmosphere, few enough to ride together, keep a real rhythm and enjoy the Aosta Valley tables like friends.

  • Who is our guide?

A professional MTB instructor and guide, Swiss Cycling certified, who knows the Aosta Valley and its trails by heart. He rides with you, adapts the route to the group and the conditions, gladly shares riding tips along the way and knows the valley's good addresses.

  • What's the typical participant profile?

Riders aged 20 to 65, men and women, with very varied profiles. What matters: having the required level (2/4 technique and fitness) and the desire to discover the Aosta Valley by bike, between trails and flavours.

  • What kind of riding should I expect?

Three days of point-to-point riding, 99 % on trails: balcony traverses, flowing forest singletracks, wild alpine pastures, with shuttle drops every day and the motor to erase the climbs. Around 140 km covered over the three days, from the Great St Bernard to the foot of the Matterhorn.

  • Do I need an e-bike, or is a regular MTB enough?

This trip is designed for e-bikes: the daily distances and vertical rely on the motor. A regular MTB is possible for very fit riders, but write to us before booking so we can talk it through.

  • How does battery range work?

The stages are set up to run on one battery, with a chance to recharge during the lunch break and at the hotel in the evening. Bring your charger: it travels in the bus with the luggage.

  • What if I get tired during the trip?

The pace is the group's, and the van is never far: we can shorten a section or hop back in the bus if the day gets too long.

  • Do I ride with all my gear?

No: the luggage is moved from hotel to hotel by bus. You only ride with your day pack, protection included.

  • What gear do I need?

A full-suspension e-bike with 140 to 180 mm of travel, fully serviced, with protection: helmet, knee pads, long-finger gloves, back protector. The full list is in the gear tab.

  • Can I rent a bike?

Yes, e-bike and protection rental are offered as options in the registration form. Give us your size, we take care of the rest.

  • What happens in bad weather?

The Aosta Valley is known for its dry, sunny climate. If the weather turns, the guide adapts the routes and the timing; if a day is really unrideable, the programme is reorganised on the spot.

  • No date suits me: can I organise this trip privately?

Yes, at any time of the season. If no date suits you or if you'd rather travel with friends, family or your club, we run this trip privately: request your private trip.

  • What insurance do I need?

Every participant must be covered for accidents, including on a mountain bike, and hold all the cover needed for mountain biking in the mountains: accidents, personal liability, as well as search, rescue and evacuation costs, helicopter included. The cover must be valid in Italy, where the trip takes place.

Note: some insurers apply special clauses or even exclusions for bike-park and lift-served riding. Check this point with your insurer before signing up.

Enduro Maroc is top-notch, with impeccable organization, trails that are as challenging as they should be, and long, long, long descents in a magnificent setting. And for the foodies, the food is amazing.

It doesn't feel like an organized tour, but more like you're on the trails you would have chosen with your group of friends, with the shuttle as a bonus. Bravo, Christian!

I spent a week with Christian exploring the Valais region between Orsières and Zermatt.
It was an incredible experience: the mountain biking challenges, the mountain views, the mountain huts for lunch, and the homemade dinners.
Each day, we took a shuttle to a new location and used the lifts as much as possible, then the e-MTB for additional climbs.
He adapted the descents/traverses according to my abilities and desires. He knows the local trails, huts, and access points very well.
