Back to MartignyMeet in Martigny-Croix to load the bikes into the Exo'bus and head for the Upper Valais. First lift from Leukerbad: within minutes you're above the spa resort, the Gemmi wall and the cirque of cliffs that close the valley. The tone is set: today, the cables go up, you go down.
Heading east along the sunny terraces of the Upper Valais, between meadows, larches and sun-blackened wooden villages clinging to their slopes for centuries: a flowy balcony trail hanging above the Rhône valley, with the 4'000-metre peaks of the Imperial Crown, Weisshorn and Dom in the lead, as a permanent backdrop. It's these panoramic traverse trails that make the day, far more than pure descent: the route is accessible, the pace relaxed, rolling, panoramic singletracks, a few short climbs, a lunch break at a superb alpine restaurant, facing the glaciers. The route may vary slightly depending on the group and the mood of the day.
Second lift in Gampel, at the entrance to the Lötschental, for a final descent down to the valley floor, and the Exo'bus takes you back to Martigny at the end of the day: 45 km, over 2'000 m of descent, barely 400 m of climbing, and a head full of images.

Required level
This tour is for intermediate riders who ride regularly on natural terrain: the route as a whole is fairly accessible, on rolling singletracks with here and there a slightly more technical passage that can always be walked, and the pace is relaxed, that of a 2.5/4 outing (technique 2.5/4, fitness 2.5/4). The lifts spare the legs; all that's left is to enjoy the balconies and over 2'000 m of descent without rushing.

Location and times
Meet in Martigny-Croix at 8:45 am, load the bikes into the Exo'bus and transfer to Leukerbad; back in Martigny around 7 pm. Practical details (exact meeting point, lift pass, weather) are sent after registration.

Lunch break at a superb alpine restaurant, facing the panorama: the meal and drinks are at your expense, so bring some cash or your card. Still take a few snacks and something to drink for the day; bottles can be refilled regularly.
Climate
The Valais generally offers ideal riding conditions, and the sunny side of the Upper Valais even more so. If the weather is uncertain, the programme adapts; if the day looks really bad, the decision to postpone is taken the day before, and postponement for bad weather is free of charge.

How many riders per group?
A small group, generally between five and ten riders: enough for the atmosphere, few enough to ride together safely and at the group's pace.

Who is our guide?
Tours in the Valais are led by a local professional MTB guide, Swiss Cycling certified, who rides in the Swiss Alps all year round and knows the trails like the back of his hand. You're in good hands!

What's the typical participant profile?
Riders aged 20 to 65, men and women, with very varied profiles. What matters: having the technical and fitness level the tour requires, and the desire to share a great day of mountain biking.

What kind of riding should I expect?
We like to vary the trails we ride as much as possible: routes are 99 % trails, with scenery that changes as the day goes on. The pace is that of the group and of the tour's rating, with breaks to enjoy the view.

How do the transfers work?
Depending on the tour, transfers are by private shuttle (the Exo'bus) from the meeting point shown on the date, or by lifts. Practical details (meeting place and time, any lift pass) are sent after registration.

Do I ride all day with all my gear?
Yes: unlike our shuttle days, a tour is ridden point to point, so you keep your riding gear with you all day (backpack with back protector, repair kit, windbreaker, snacks and something to drink). Hence the point of travelling light and taking only what you need.

What insurance should I plan?

I spent a week with Christian exploring the Valais region between Orsières and Zermatt.
It was an incredible experience: the mountain biking challenges, the mountain views, the mountain huts for lunch, and the homemade dinners.
Each day, we took a shuttle to a new location and used the lifts as much as possible, then the e-MTB for additional climbs.
He adapted the descents/traverses according to my abilities and desires. He knows the local trails, huts, and access points very well.
