Fullmoon MTB shuttle day in the Valais: 5'000 m of descent and a final run by headlamp

Departure from Martigny at midday for four to five runs on a fine variety of trails, then a meal all together in an unusual spot, before heading out again after dark for one last long run by moonlight and headlamps. Over 5'000 m of vertical drop, local guide, advanced level. A few sessions a year, when the moon gives enough light to ride.

Highlights

  • A final run by headlamp

The highlight of the evening: the same trails, but in the beam of your lamps, by moonlight.

  • Over 5'000 m of descent, zero climbing

Four to five runs in daylight, plus the night rotation: the van does all the work.

  • A meal in an unusual spot

We park the bikes and sit down together, between sunset and the night ride.

  • A local guide who knows the trails at night

He picks trails that ride well by headlamp and runs the group smoothly.

  • Coffee and beer after the ride

We finish together, once the last run is done.

  • Night riding as a group, by the light of the moon

Distance 35 kmClimbing 300 mDescent 5'000 m+Transfer Back to Martigny

The day starts at midday in Martigny, bikes loaded into the Exo'bus, for four to five runs on a fine variety of trails. We ride all afternoon and make the most of the fading light, the kind that makes the woods so special at the end of the day.

When the sun drops behind the ridges, we park the bikes for a meal all together in an unusual spot. That's often the moment participants remember: we go back over the runs of the day, we laugh, and the excitement builds quietly as night falls.

Then comes the highlight of the evening. Headlamps on, we head out for one last long run by moonlight. The reference points change and so do the sensations: the trail narrows to the beam of your lamp, sounds take over, and every corner becomes a small surprise. Your guide, a Swiss Cycling certified instructor, picks trails that ride well at night and runs the group smoothly.

Back to Martigny in the Exo'bus, with a coffee and a beer to round off the evening.

Ready to ride by moonlight? Only a few sessions a year, limited places: book yours.

What's included

  • Local professional MTB guide, Swiss Cycling certified (fr/en/de)
  • All transfers by private shuttle (Exo'bus), to and from Martigny
  • Four to five runs in daylight, plus one long night run
  • The evening meal in an unusual spot
  • Coffee and beer after the ride
  • Mechanical support and spare bike
  • Riding tips
  • Souvenir photos

Not included

  • MTB or e-bike and protection rental (optional, in the registration form)
  • Lighting: every participant brings their own headlamp and bar light
  • Snacks and drinks for the afternoon
  • Personal insurance
  • Tips
  • Anything not listed under « Included »

Your bike

A full day plus a night run: your bike has to be flawless, because a mechanical is much harder to sort out by headlamp.

The bike

  • Full-suspension MTB or e-bike, 150 to 180 mm of travel, fully serviced (no DH bikes or dual-crown forks)
  • Mixed-terrain tyres, 2.4" or wider, reinforced casings, set up tubeless with fresh sealant
  • Dropper post
  • Brake pads in very good condition
  • Charged battery if e-bike

Spare parts

  • 1 compatible derailleur hanger
  • 1 inner tube
  • 1 set of brake pads
  • 1 quick link matching your chain

No suitable bike? We offer MTB or e-bike rental, to be booked in the registration form.

Your lighting

This is what makes the difference on a Fullmoon: every participant brings their own lighting, it isn't provided.

  • A helmet headlamp, 800 lumens minimum, fully charged: it lights up wherever you look
  • A bar light as well, to bring out the shapes in front of your wheel
  • A spare battery, or a light that lasts at least two hours on a high setting

Test your kit before you come: a badly fitted headlamp or a tired battery can spoil the best run of the evening.

Your gear

On you

  • Open-face MTB helmet or helmet with removable chin bar
  • Sunglasses for the day, and clear lenses for the night run
  • Knee pads (elbow pads recommended)
  • Long-finger gloves
  • Bike clothes plus a warm layer: temperatures drop fast once the sun is down

In the backpack (or hip pack with a separate back protector)

  • Back protector
  • Rain-resistant windbreaker
  • Repair kit: tyre levers, tubeless plugs, multitool, chain tool, pump or CO2 cartridges
  • First-aid kit
  • Snacks and something to drink for the afternoon
  • Charged mobile phone

We meet the Exo'bus at every rotation: you can leave your warm layer and anything you don't need for the descent in it.

Required level

The Fullmoon is rated 3/4: the daytime trails are those of our advanced days, and the night run is on a trail chosen to work well by headlamp. You need to be at ease on technical terrain in daylight, because darkness removes reference points and calls for more anticipation.

See the level scale

New to shuttles? Start with a level 2/4 day and save the Fullmoon for next season.

Location and times

Meeting at midday in Martigny, and a late return after the night run and the closing drink. The exact place, time and spot of the day are confirmed with the practical details after registration.

Meals

The evening meal, in an unusual spot, is included. Bring something to snack on and drink for the afternoon: you can leave it in the Exo'bus between runs.

Lighting

Every participant brings their own lighting: a helmet headlamp of 800 lumens minimum, a bar light as well, and enough battery for at least two hours. Details are in the gear tab.

Climate

Temperatures drop fast once the sun is down, even after a fine day: bring a warm layer and a windbreaker. If the weather is really bad, the ride is moved to another session in the season.

Ready to ride?

Convinced? Only a few sessions a year, when the moon gives enough light to ride, and shuttle seats are limited: hit the registration button and book yours.

Riding with us often? The Exo'Pass gives you ten shuttle days for the price of eight.

Want to ride the Fullmoon just with your group? We also run this format privately: send us your request.

  • How is this different from a regular shuttle day?

The schedule: departure at midday, four to five runs in the afternoon, a meal all together in an unusual spot, then one last long run by headlamp in the moonlight. Over 5'000 m of vertical drop in total.

  • Do I need to have ridden at night before?

No, many participants discover night riding that evening. The trail for the night run is chosen to work well by headlamp, and the guide adapts the pace. You do need to be at ease on technical terrain in daylight, though.

  • Is lighting provided?

No: every participant brings their own. A helmet headlamp of 800 lumens minimum, a bar light as well, and enough battery for at least two hours. Test your kit before you come.

  • How many riders per group?

A small group: at night that matters even more, to keep everyone together and enjoy the atmosphere.

  • Is the meal included?

Yes, the evening meal in an unusual spot is included, as are the coffee and beer after the ride. Just bring something to snack on for the afternoon.

  • Can I come with an e-bike?

Yes. Bring a well-charged battery: between the afternoon runs and the night rotation, it's a long day. As the van does the climbing, MTBs and e-bikes ride together without any problem.

  • Can I rent a bike?

Yes, MTB or e-bike rental and protection are offered as options in the registration form. Lighting, however, is up to you.

  • Who is our guide?

A local professional MTB instructor and guide, Swiss Cycling certified, who has been running these days since 2010. He picks trails that ride well at night and runs the group smoothly, from the first run to the last.

He is also an active racer, winner of major international enduro mountain bike races in recent seasons.

  • What if I'd rather stop before the night run?

No problem: you can stay at the meal spot and head back with the van. The night run is an option, not an obligation.

  • How many sessions a year?

Only a few sessions in the season, set on the nights when the moon gives enough light to ride. Shuttle seats are limited and go quickly.

  • I'm planning several days: is there a better rate?

Yes: with the Exo'Pass, you buy ten shuttle days and only pay for eight. It's valid on all our shuttle days in the Valais, Fullmoon included.

  • What happens in bad weather?

The sky counts double on a Fullmoon: if the weather is really bad, the ride is moved to another session in the season, at no cost to you.

  • Can we book a private Fullmoon, with or without a guide?

Yes, in both formats. With a guide, you get what makes our open days good: trail choice according to conditions and level, management of the group dynamic and of whatever comes up, mechanicals as well as crashes. At night that matters even more.

A guideless option exists, but the experience isn't the same: it's meant above all for locals who already know the trails well, along with the sensitive points on certain paths, slowing down, erosion or conflicts with other users.

    Request your private day

  • What insurance do I need?

Every participant must be covered for accidents, including on a mountain bike, and hold all the cover needed for mountain biking in the mountains: accidents, personal liability, as well as search, rescue and evacuation costs, helicopter included. For participants coming from abroad, the cover must be valid in Switzerland.

Note: some insurers apply special clauses or even exclusions for bike-park and lift-served riding. Check this point with your insurer before signing up.

Chris has been organizing MTB shuttles in Valais since 2010, and he's been riding on two wheels since 1989: mountain biking is basically his whole life. A true local who knows the region like the back of his hand and will show you the most beautiful routes around, far from the beaten track.

An enduro enthusiast, Chris also competes alongside his work as a guide. This hands-on racing experience directly feeds into what he brings you on the trail: line choices, trail reading, and technical tips that always hit the mark.

Enduro Maroc is top-notch, with impeccable organization, trails that are as challenging as they should be, and long, long, long descents in a magnificent setting. And for the foodies, the food is amazing.

It doesn't feel like an organized tour, but more like you're on the trails you would have chosen with your group of friends, with the shuttle as a bonus. Bravo, Christian!

I spent a week with Christian exploring the Valais region between Orsières and Zermatt.
It was an incredible experience: the mountain biking challenges, the mountain views, the mountain huts for lunch, and the homemade dinners.
Each day, we took a shuttle to a new location and used the lifts as much as possible, then the e-MTB for additional climbs.
He adapted the descents/traverses according to my abilities and desires. He knows the local trails, huts, and access points very well.
I end this week with gratitude, a sense of wonder at the Alps, and the desire to return for more adventures.
